New School Uniform law could see parents save hundreds of pounds
A new school uniform law could be set to come into force in the next few months and could potentially save some parents hundreds of pounds.
Schools will be told they can specify basic items such as trousers and shirts but not styles.
This means parents will have the flexibility to buy supermarket basic brands rather than branded clothing only available from select suppliers, which can be expensive.
A study has shown currently Secondary school uniforms can cost an average of £340 per year and Primary school uniforms can set parents back an average of £255 per year!
Mum of 4 Sarah says "This would be amazing news, I really struggle to afford uniform for my children so this would be amazing for us and save us a fortune on branded sweaters and polo tops".
Following the Sunday People campaign; Labour MP Mike Amesbury is set to introduce the bill this week, which could come into force as early as Spring this year.
Mr Amesbury said "Headteachers will be required to draw up a totally inclusive uniforms policy".
Almost one in six families say scool uniform costs are to blame for them having to cut back on food and other basic essentials, compared with one in severn in 2015.
