Relaxed performance of Madagascar the Musical coming to Theatre Severn!

Get Your Wigle On, who are currently in rehearsals for Madagascar the Musical, recently announced that they are adding an extra matinee due to popular ticket sales! The extra performance will be a ‘relaxed performance’ which means it can be adapted to suit people who might require a more understanding environment when going to the theatre.

Open to everyone. A relaxed performance means audience members can move around freely, leave and enter the auditorium as needed, the lights will stay on low and sound effects are softened.

“The other matinee performances are almost sold out, and this is a lovely way of inviting families who otherwise may not be able to attend many theatre productions. Everyone can enjoy this wonderful show in a totally non-judgemental environment!”

GYWO staff member Jodie Welch

The show centres around Alex the lion, Marty the zebra, Melman the giraffe, and Gloria the hippo, as we follow them on their unexpected journey.  Alex is king of the urban jungle and the main attraction at New York’s Central Park Zoo. He and his best friends have spent their whole lives in blissful captivity before an admiring public and with regular meals provided for them.

Itching to discover what’s beyond the zoo walls, Marty lets his curiosity get the better of him, and makes his escape with the help of the plotting penguins.  After attempting to bring Marty home, the crack-a-lackin’ best friends wind up on a surprising adventure, which leads them into the colourful world of King Julien the lemur, and his tribe.

Rehearsals are in full swing and the Shropshire company, who recently brought a trophy home after competing at the Junior Theatre Festival, are busy preparing for the adventure to the Madagascan jungle.  Will Monek-Evans, who will be taking on the role of Alex the lion says “It’s unlike any show you’ve seen. We’re having so much fun in rehearsals, I’m buzzing for audiences to see it!”.  With outlandish characters, fun-filled choreography, and toe-tapping musical numbers, this is the perfect show for an entertaining family night out.

Five performances will run in the Theatre Severn’s main auditorium from Friday 2nd June to Sunday 4th June 2023.  Tickets are available at https://www.theatresevern.co.uk/shows/whatson/madagascar-a-musical-adventure.  Book tickets online or pop into our new studio on Princess street in the centre of town, and speak to the friendly team about group bookings.

Adventure galore and an upbeat score, you’ll have no choice but to 'Move It, Move It!’.
