Bakker Elkhuizen UltraBoard 950
About the product:
A compact keyboard for the correct ergonomic posture.
UltraBoard 950 is the latest compact keyboard from BakkerElkhuizen. The light keystroke, 2 USB ports and clear layout make this a complete keyboard.
The biggest difference to a standard keyboard is that it has no numerical section, which makes the keyboard narrower.
A compact keyboard reduces the distance to the mouse and reduces strain on your lower arms. An added benefit is that a compact variant is easier to transport in a laptop bag. You therefore need not rely on your laptop keyboard.
Compact: the keyboard is thinner, narrower and shallower than the S-Board 840.
Ergonomic: its compact shape enables you to adopt a better working posture, with fewer lower arm complaints as a result.
Modern: the UltraBoard 950 has a modern and stylish design.
A compact keyboard lacks the numerical section. The mouse can thus be placed closer to the keyboard. Research shows 90% of users rarely or never use the numerical section. A compact keyboard is more comfortable because it reduces the distance to the mouse (Cook C, et al., 1998). It thus reduces strain on the lower arms and shoulders. Dark letters on a bright background improve legibility (ISO 9241) and contribute to higher productivity (Snyder, 1990).

TechnologyOur Verdict
The UltraBoard 950 key design principle is on correct posture when using your computers keyboard, they state by having a narrower keyboard that your arms stay at better angles when using the computer and your mouse. On the whole it does feel better when you sit at a computer as long as I do and it also makes for a neater and better organised desktop. The mouse can be placed closer along with other things you may need as you work. The keyboard is tactile and the keys respond well, the number pad is accessible via function button and the keys are all big enough to avoid typing errors due to size. As with all keyboards it takes a day or so before your blitzing out the words and there may be a learning curve to unlearn having a full keyboard with dedicated numeric pad but it doesn't take too long.
The build quality is good, it has some nice raisers fitted underneath and on either side is a USB socket for adding those extra devices. As a parent I like this, not only do I find the keyboard make it a nicer desk environment but the children find the smaller keyboard easier to type on too. Another great thing about this compact keyboard as it will fit most laptop bags or back packs without hanging out the end. The cable version we had into try had a reasonable length too it, but don't put your computer too far away as it isn't the longest.
There are other keyboards on the market that come with detachable number pads or you can even buy a separate USB number pad that you can bring out when your number crunching.
Overall
This keyboard helps you keep your arms straighter, desktop tidy, is good for little hands, is portable, well made, has an extra USB socket either side, tactile and features extra keys via a function button. However the price tag is fairly high, the cable long enough but not a great length and the wireless version weights in fairly higher in price.
